Children's Choirs

Children's Choir is a ministry available to all children ages older threes through 6th grade.  Choirs meet on Sunday evenings from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. This year, we will meet until mid-May.  The focus of each choir varies by age, but all choirs exist for the purpose of teaching children about music and worship expression through music.

Preschoolers are the best!Preschool Choirs have a focus of teaching music basics of rhythm, pitch, melody, form and expressive qualities.  This is done in a context of play and activity to make learning music a fun experience.  These groups present what they have learned each year at Parent Nights held in the spring.  There are five preschool choirs.  "Music for Threes" is open for children who turn three by April 15th of the current year.  There are 2 four year old choirs (younger Fours and older Fours) and 2 five year old choirs (younger Fives and older Fives).

1st-3rd graders rule!Children's Choirs have a focus of teaching music as worship and outreach, as well as presentation skills for performance.  This is done through hymn memory, presentations in worship services, outreach to the community and special musical presentations.  First through Third grades present programs in nursing homes as well as singing in worship services.  Every three years this group presents a musical to give them experience in presentation before they enter Fourth grade.

4th-6th graders are cool!Kid's Choirs focus on presentation skills and preparing programs for ministry.  This year, the Fourth through Sixth graders meet together in a large group to learn music, then break down into smaller "huddle" groups.  These groups consist of percussion ensemble, vocal ensemble, orff instruments, lummi sticks, musical games, and sign language.  This breakdown helps to prepare the students for presentation in worship, for use in outreach, and in their yearly musical presentation.
